Tour de la Vallee

This year Tenth Mountain Ski Club has committed to supporting the annual  Tour de la Vallee in memory  of Scott Guimond. Several steering committee members have supported this ride for years.  The funds raised benefit the  Edgar Paradis Cancer Fund. We invite all club members to join us in this effort. Ride Lengths are 25, 50, 62, or 100 miles.  Generally riders doing the longer distances leave earlier and may not choose to ride as a group whereas, those doing 50 or 25may choose to start and finish together.  Those interested in joining the Tenth Mountain Team can contact Jackie Caron at 834-3169 at your earliest convenience. Check out the Tour de la Vallee website for specific information and registration. http://www.nmmc.org/biketour/

Construction of Single Track, non motorized, multi-use, trails to begin at 10th Mountain.

The Tenth Mountain Ski Club will begin construction of a new trail system at the center on July 10th.  We will be constructing new trails to be used primarily for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking during the summer and snowshoeing during the winter..  The first trail wil be a loop approximately 2 miles long and will extend from the garage at Tenth Mt to the Red Barn parking lot and back. On our first work day we will focus on widening the existing snowshoe trails.  Construction of the tread will begin at a later date.  We will meet at 8:30 at the garage and work until early to mid afternoon and then have a BBQ at the lodge. Anyone interested can then join us after the BBQ for a group mountain bike tour of the single track trails in Edmondston, NB. Those interested in hiking or running on these great trails may also join us. Please bring gloves, suitable clothing, and water.  If you have a brush saw, please feel free to bring it.

International Mountain Bike Association holds Workshop

Representatives from the 10th Mtn Ski Club of Fort Kent, and the Four Seasons Trail Association of Madawaska attended a multi-use trail building workshop in the greater Portland area.

Mountain Bike Enthusiasts from the St. John Valley Volunteer in Southern Maine

Falmouth, ME

5/29/10

Over the holiday weekend, despite the call of family BBQ’s and trips to the lake, representatives from the 10th Mtn Ski Club of Fort Kent, and the Four Seasons Trail Association of Madawaska attended a multi-use trail building workshop in the greater Portland area.

The workshop, lead by an IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) Trail Care Crew, focused on sustainable trail design and construction techniques.  The session included a three-hour classroom session followed by an afternoon of hands-on education in the Falmouth woods.  Jeff Dubis of 10th Mtn and Mark Dionne of FSTA were joined by development coaches Seth Hubbard and Mike Smith of the Maine Winter Sports Center, as well as 30+ mountain bikers from the Southern Maine area.

Applauded for making the long trip, the efforts of the crew from the St. John Valley helped build a beautiful piece of singletrack for trail-enthusiasts in the Falmouth area.  As part of the trip the gentlemen were also ventured out on a mountain bike ride through the trails at Bradbury Mountain State Park, in Pownal.  These trails have gained recognition as one the premier mountain bike destinations in the state of Maine and provided plenty of discussion for the travelling volunteers.

This trip marked the beginning of what will be a busy summer season of building and riding in the St. John Valley.  The 10th Mtn Ski Club begins construction this month on a new system of singletrack trails that will accommodate hikers, runners, mountain bikers and snowshoers.  The multi-use trails at the Four Seasons Lodge in Madawaska, already in use, will see maintenance and modification over the summer months.  Both areas will now benefit from the experience and knowledge brought back by their local riders and volunteers.

For more information on trail activities at both of these clubs check out their respective websites:
